Rick's route to becoming the front man of a rock band is unlike most others. Throughout his teenage years, Rick's musical performances were limited strictly to musical theatre and singing non-original, classical-type solos at various events; being a rock musician wasn't even a thought in his mind. Years of professional vocal training gave Rick a unique and powerful sound that led him to great success in the musical theatre / solo performance world. Yet, after years of this success, Rick started to feel that something was missing from the music in his life.
It was at this point that Rick decided to inject his creativity into the music in his life by beginning to write his own lyrics and music. Rick, a self-taught piano player, soon began to feel that writing strictly on piano confined his song writing; so he started to teach himself guitar. Soon after, Rick used his guitar talent to take a serious turn toward hard rock. When he started to write music and lyrics with his brother, Rick knew that he had found what he was missing in his musical theatre life. Silver Spade quickly became Rick's passion and he had no problem concentrating his musical talents solely on the band. "Singing someone else's songs just isn't what I want to do," Rick said, "I want to write and perform ground-breaking music. With the talent we have in this band and the type of music we write, there is no doubt in my mind that I'm doing just that." |
